TASK
week 1 (23.8.2021)
For this week, we were asked to create a character in an existing world that we could choose from any film or game. I have chosen the film, White snake as my reference world to create my character. We were asked to create a mood board and come out with the story of the character. Below are my canva slides and my 10 thumbnail silhouette sketches.
To begin with my design, I start to find inspiration for my character, I was inspired by a China boy group's new song with the title vermillion bird. I then found some photos in the movie, to study their style and weather changes.

After that, I studied more on the vermillion bird and know that it is the god of fire and it is one of the four symbols of the Chinese constellations.
| fig 1.5 attire reference |
Here are some of the attire references, as in the movie, some of the characters didn't wear according to the dynasty, therefore I studied more on the different traditional costumes. I wanted to make the character have some motif and elements of the original vermillion bird design, so wings and tails will be used.

Above are the 10 sketches in 2 sheets, which I try to come out with how Song Xi will look like.
