TASKS
In this project, we were asked to express typographically a social message related to campus community. Unfortunately, we are not able to go to campus because of the pandemic, so we can do any message that we want. It can be any social message. We can use 2 different colors.
messages
I did some research on what message that I can use.
" give me a <br/>"
"let's just be who we really are!"
"A little progress each day adds up to big result"
"The world is a mess because a certain set of people designed it to be a mess."
"Free? I am designer, not your slave"
"Sure, I would love to do it for free, but would you pay for my rent? Exactly, I don't think so."
final choice
"Free design? Uh huh, I would love to do it for free, but would you pay for my bills? Exactly, I don't think so."
I chose this quote because it is kind of related to me. I had been asking for drawing or designing things for free since they know I am studying design. I think it is really important to let people know that SAY NO TO FREE DESIGN.

adding texture to the poster
After the feedback for Mr Vinod, I decided to change my message from
'Free design? Uh huh, I would love to do it, but will you pay for my bill? Exactly, I don't think so.'
to
'Free design? NO. Do it yourself if you think it's easy.'

First, I import all the photoshop layers to After effect. As I am new to the software, I only apply simple effect on the design.
After receiving feedback from Mr. Vinod, I tried another version of animation as making the question mark move like a stamp. It looks more impactful than the animation above.

'free design? No, do it yourself if you think it's easy.'
At the beginning, 'the free design' words appears to trick the audience that there are advertisement of free design. However, after the question mark stamped on the poster, the design had fell down to emphasis and make the question mark looks like it is being stamped hardly. After that, the word 'No' would appear fast to make it looks like it is angry and the 'no' sign that appear on the dot of question marks looks like the stop sign with the colors. At the end, there would be a small line of sentence 'do it yourself if you think it's easy' to explain that how some people thinks that design are easy to do.
FEEDBACK
week 10
General feedback : make sure the poster is dynamic and impactful
Specific feedback : Mr. Vinod and Mr. Shamsul looked at my options for poster design, Mr. Shamsul said that there are too many things happing there. Mr. Vinod said that he like the way how I put the 'free' and 'design' and the way I hoke the question looks really good/ Maybe I should move the question mark a little bit inside. Try to make the sentence 'I don't think so' inside the circle. Delete all the remaining sentence and add 1 more sentence to explain it. I could make more design like creating some imperfection like how Mr. Vinod showed us last week. Mr. Vinod and Mr. Shamsul also looked at my other designs. Mr. Vinod said that he like my last options for my design also, but it needs more working than the first options.
week 11
General feedback:
Specific feedback: Mr. Vinod said that my final outcome is nice. Good job. Might can bend the word a little bit. Mr. Shamsul said that maybe can tone down a bit the background. Good job Phoebie!
week 12
General feedback:
Specific feedback: Mr Vinod said that my animation is not impactful enough but it is still ok.
REFLECTION
Experience : week 10: I had hard time thinking idea for how to express my message, I had tried a lot of compositions and finally something worked. I did a lot o research on how people did type expression and composition on poster. week 11: I had gain experience of how to use different texture brush to create unequal texture on the text. I am really happy that Mr. Vinod is satisfied with my work. week 12: I had watched some videos on YouTube that teaches us how to do some effect on after effect, I had learn a lot of things from there.
Observation : week 10: I observed that we need to think of idea as much as we can, there would be something that could work because practice makes perfect. I also found that most of my classmate work are really good, I had learned something from them. week 11: I think it is hard to think about how to make the animation impactful.
Finding : week 10: I found that red is a good color to catch people's eye. week 11: I found that after effect is quite useful software to make these simple gif but it will head up my laptop as every time I tried to render the video, my laptop will have the fan sound and I am so worried that my laptop will burn, so every time when I render my video, I will try to move the laptop nearer to the aircon hahahaha but I think it is quite fun to use. week 12: as I am doing another version of animation, I found that the video after I changed it to .avi file , it will takes a lot of space of my laptop as the files are big.

Why fonts matter
I knew that I can't finish the book so I skipped to the parts that I am interesting which is 'Font give words a personality'. In the book, it really shows the personality of some typefaces which inspired me in designing my poster. The book included the survey that non designers' and designers' thinking of the type. It shows that type professionals can contribute more qualities to typefaces and describe them using more complex words.
'Graphic designers can get a bit serious and beard-stroking about typefaces.' Angus Montgomery.

Stop, Think, Go, Do : How Typography & Graphic Design
fig 2.4 stop, think, go, do: How Typography & Graphic Design book cover 27/10/2020
I only read the first chapter of this book because I don't have much time, I want to focus on the main assignment more. Here are some of the things that I learn while I read this book.
Graphic design focuses our eyes and minds on what is already instinctively hardwired.
When design is operating best, the audience is less aware of the design tropes than how the design functions.
If we want someone to take a message seriously, we must make the letters big and bold.
