TUTORIAL

Lecture 1: constructive workflow

The constructive workflow starts with the way you think. To make your work more productive, it is important to synchronize your workflow and construct how your brain works.

Construct a strategic plan
1. Evaluate data and imformation
2.Identify pro and cons
3. Create a content creation plan
4. Understand your outcome
5. Build case studies

Fill in the blank
1. create empty folder
2. fill in each folders with progress
3.synchronize all working files for each software requirements

Get some ides and inspiration

Set a perimeter
1. Ideas
2.Time
3.Identify your strengths
4.reference
5. Solution is the answer

Lecture 2: intro to photoshop 2

Double exposure merging multiple images
you don't need a double exposure camera to do it.

1. Using the tilt-shift effect
blur 1 of the photos instead of the entire image
Filter>Blur gallery> Tilt-Shift
2. Crete fake reflection
creating double exposure with the help of a separate window photo
3.Experimental with simple portraits and details textured
combining something plain with something complicated.
4.Converting your result to black and white
5.Work with silhouette
6. Pick two random photos
7. Make simple object look fascinating
8. Use shadow

Photoshop: blend mode
commonly used blend modes: darkening lightening and contrast

Lecture 3: intro to photoshop 3

Match light .Adjustment layers, Filters
1.create new fill or adjustment layer
2.The adjustment layer will come with a layer mask
3.we can use multiple adjustment layers stacked on top of one another.
4.Using Blend Modes and opacity
5.Controlling Adjustments with masking with brush tool set to the color black to hide the area for adjustment and color white to reveal it for adjustment
6.Using adjustment layers in composite image  hold control and click on the layer's icon

Lecture 4: exposure: Aperture,Shutter Speed,ISO

Exposure is the act of exposing the image sensor to light.
Shutter speed is the time the shutter is open. the shorter the time the image sensor is exposed to light, the darker the resulting photograph.
Aperture controls the brightness of the image. The higher the F number, the darker the image projected on the image sensor.
ISO is a camera setting that increases or lowers the amount of light in a photo.

Lecture 5: A simplified Zone system for making good exposures

Slides, negatives, and digital
Projected slides can reproduce a brighness range of 1000:1
The best you you can do with a print is about 100:1

Introduction to the zone system
'Expose for the shadow; develop for the highlights.'
The difference between the simplified and full zone system is that in the simplified zone system you don't have control over development; you control only the exposure.

Zonetones in scenes and prints are divided into nine zones, numbered 1 through 9 from dark to light.

The key to the zone system is visualizing how you want areas of the scene to appear in the final image, or in the language of the zone system, where you want to place them. Select an area of the scene, meter it, then adjust the exposure by the difference between the zone you want in the final image and zone 5  (middle grey).

Lecture 6: composition and consistency

how to create dynamic composition
We can use size, weight, value and color to create contrast and create visual hierarchy.

INSTRUCTIONS

TASKS
Exercise 1
we were asked to create photo manipulation by using masking, blending mode, paths and layering. We need to create 3 different composition by the images provided.

composition 1

fig 1.1 composition 1 20/9/2020

For this composition, I want to emphasis the old fashion type writer. And I want to make it look like train that gives out smoke with create surrealism feeling by making the fish as smoke.
fig 1.2 composition 2 20/9/2020
For this composition, I want to show the people from the building are going towards the television.
fig 1.3 composition 3 20/9/2020

For this composition, I had applied balance design principle by making both of the fish looking at opposite side. and the projector are projecting the people walking towards the building kind of feeling.

Exercise 2

fig 1.4 composition 1 20/9/2020

Reflective Writing:
This photoshop work is talking about people should focus on their target and not distract by other fancy things. As you can see there are some kind of door at the end of the path of the people walking, but is not the limit yet, there are still a lot in behind. I try to create a 3 points perspective in this composition.

fig 1.5 composition 2 20/9/2020

Reflective Writing:
In this composition, I try to create an image of a building and there are humans inside the building. The size of the astronaut and people make a contrast for this image. There were also no other color except for pink for this image.

fig 1.6 composition 3 20/9/2020

Reflective Writing:
In this composition, I try to make the image dark but make the mountain lighter color compare to others to create contrast in it. As you can see, I tried to put all the elements at the center of the image to let the audience have a simple and direct visual. In this image, I am trying to give a message that there are still a lot of things behind this world.

fig 1.7 composition 4 20/9/2020

Reflective Writing:

In this image I am just trying to play with the composition and colors. I had use red and green as the main color of this image. Same as composition 3,I had also place all the element at the center.

fig 1.8 composition 5 20/9/2020

Reflective writing:
In this image, I tried to create a narrative that the men are actually spy from outer space, and he is stalking Earth, but the people on Earth were actually stalking back to outer space.

fig 1.9 composition 6 20/9/2020

Reflective Writing:
In this image, it is a simple collage that shows the emphasis of the astronaut. The astronaut are going back home from moon by bring the things that he explore on the moon.

FEEDBACK

Exercise 1: Composition #1 is good. Keep it clean. Keep it up Phoebie.

Exercise 2: Good job Phoebie! Composition #1 and the extra is the best. Keep up a good work! Mr. Fauzi showed my work in class and he said that my composition 2 looked like a movie poster.

REFLECTION

Experience: I really had fun doing these exercise because I can play with what I had learn. For the first exercise, I am still new to photoshop, I don't know how to use certain tool that makes the final outcome doesn't look really well. For the second exercise, I could see my improvement because I had practice a lot.

Observation: I notice that we need to have the purpose of creating design instead of creating design itself.

Finding: I found if you keep on practicing on the composition, there will be 1 or 2 good one in there.
